Should we welcome or dread 15 minute cities? Where will the culture wars break out next? What is our stance on Palestine? Plus: we share our favourite books and movies, and crown 2023’s word of the year.
Regarding the section on Israel/Palestine: I’m relived to hear your understanding of the settler-colonialist charge being unfounded. And I appreciate your courage in speaking towards that stance in a left wing space here.
I would encourage you (and especially your cohost) to explore the flaws and corruption of the UN (especially UNWRA), its uneven treatment of Israel regarding the charge of war crimes and the complications of urban warfare.
Also to gain a more solid understanding of exactly what happened in Gaza in 2005.
Hi Romham! There is a transcript for every podcast episode available when you access the page through a browser via desktop or phone. It looks like the transcript does not show up through email or the app yet, which is too bad, but through a browser you'll see an option to open the transcript just above the YouTube embed. The YouTube video also has captions you can turn on. The captions for both are currently AI generated through Substack; I hope to upgrade their quality once I can pay for that labour.
And for clarity's sake: only half the newsletter's contents are videos. I continue to publish an essay every other week.

hey i was wondering if you were going to have transcripts anywhere now that the newsletter seems to just be video?

good to know, thanks!
You're most welcome! I've added an "essays" tab to the website to make it easier to find the non-audiovisual content.
